One of the most distinctive attractions of the Veneto Region, is without doubt, its   country Villas. These elegant residences, used by Venetian noblemen during the seventeenth century as their summer homes, were built in enchanting rural areas in the provinces of Venice, Vicenza and Treviso. It is only within the last few years that certain private connoisseurs, recognising their enormous artistic and national value, have, through meticulous restoration, returned these residences to their former glory, transforming them into stunning country house hotels.  In this way, visitors to the area are offered the opportunity to rediscover the true 'art of living' as envisaged by noble Venetian families. Such is the nature of the magnificent country residence of the Villa Abbazia.

The surrounding area developed most notably after 1000AD when a group of Cistercian Monks drained the saturated land and instead, founded the famous Abbey, destination of pilgrims even from ancient times.  The Shrine was constructed in the 14th century and is built in Roman-Gothic style. This thriving area has been the place of birth for notable literary figures, namely Mozart's librettista, Lorenzo da Ponte, and has welcomed painters such as Tiziano, Podenone, Previtali, Francesco di Milano and Dall'oglio, who have found their source of inspiration from the outstanding natural beauty of the area. Here too, men of genius have striven to create and adorn Renaissance palazzi, villas of noblemen, castles, fortifications and city walls - all of them true triumphs of architecture. The religious culture of the entire community can be seen in the churches, abbeys, shrines and parishes, dotted about all over and often embellished with precious frescoes, precious not only in terms of their ancient origins, but also in terms of their artistic worth.
